What: "Agoraphobia is like gangrene. If you let one avoidance fester untreated it spreads and leads to other avoidances. Gangrene many start in the toes but eventually the whole leg is infected and must be removed restricting ambulation. I have had patients who let their agoraphobia go untreated so long that they can't leave their neighborhood or even their house."
